Minis U8s 2022-23 Season

The Tetbury Rugby U8s (Year 3 at School) play mixed rugby (girls and boys) with a focus on inclusion, developing skills and enjoyment for all children, from beginners to experienced players.

The 2022-2023 season starts on Sunday 4th September at 10:30am to midday at Sir William Romney School (SWR) (Tetbury, Gloucestershire GL8 8AE).

The first 2 Sundays are free to all children (including previous members), players get the opportunity to see if they would like to join Tetbury Mini Rugby. For these training sessions, children are not obliged to wear the Tetbury Rugby kit. (See Kit Section below)

The first few weeks of the season will be consolidating past learning and developing new skills for the transition from U7s to U8s. As the season progresses, we will then either play in matches, at home (SWR) or away at other local clubs or play training sessions to further develop our skills at SWR.
We are a friendly and welcoming club with a focus on inclusion, developing skills and enjoyment for all children.
We have a great coaching team who are committed to helping players develop themselves as young people as well as Rugby players. As a club we organise regular home and away fixtures for all age groups.

Tetbury Rugby has a long tradition of being a Touring club with annual tours for U8s and over and team day trips out for the younger age groups. The U8s are no exception to this and towards the end of the Season, there will be an organised Tour for players, parents and coaches. Details of the Tour will be sent out by your Age Group administrator nearer the time.

Basic Rules for the U8s game:

• -Mixed Rugby (girls and boys)
• -Tag – 6 tags to score
• -Maximum 6 players on each side at a time
• -No kicking of any kind

Coaching
All our coaches are experienced, attend regular coaching to further develop their skills and to improve the training they offer the children. All are registered with the England Rugby Football Union and are DBS checked.

We are always on the lookout for more coaches and volunteers for the Café and Committee, which further enhances the whole Rugby experience at Tetbury, so, if you are interested, please let us know.

Signing Up / Membership

On Sunday 11th September we will be having a membership sign up alongside the usual training.

We will also have a membership table outside the SWR Leisure Centre on Sunday 4th September training session for signing up and answering any questions that you might have.

Clothing / Kit

For the first 2 training sessions children are not obliged to wear the Tetbury Rugby kit.

Our kit supplier is Bateman’s (of Stroud) www.batemanssports.co.uk who stock the full kit for all ages.

As part of the membership every other year each player from U9s upwards receive a new Tetbury Rugby top as part of their annual membership, these are paid for by our fantastic Sponsors, this will next occur in the 2023-24 Season, these tops are usually distributed in October/November to paid up members. For the younger Age Groups a free gift will be provided during the season.

Players will require rugby boots and for the U9s and over mouth guards are required, helmets etc. are optional and up to the child and parents.

Bateman’s will be in attendance, selling kit and taking orders, on Sunday 11th September at our training session at SWR.

For the 2022-2023 Season we will also be selling Kit and Merchandise in the SWR Leisure Centre / Café, more details to follow.

 Location / Parking / Facilities

All training sessions for the Mini’s are held at Sir William Romney School (SWR) Tetbury, Gloucestershire GL8 8AE.

Parking is available at SWR next to the Sports Centre, which is accessed at the end of Lowfield Road, Tetbury with overflow parking on busy match days available at Tesco’s which is just a short walk away from the school.

Each Age Group’s playing area will be clearly marked on the school field by our Age Group flags.

Our onsite Café at SWR, which will be open for training and home matches, serves local Jessie Smith hotdogs and bacon rolls, , coffee, tea and a selection of other snacks and drinks.

Full details of each Sunday’s plans will be provided each week via your Age Group administrator and updated weekly on the website home page, should for any reason training or matches be cancelled due to weather etc. this will be updated on the website, so please check.
