Veterans Game to commemorate the life and work of Dave Hobbs-What a super day!!

The veterans game this coming weekend - 2:30 kick-off on the pitch at the Rec (bar will be open from 1:00) - is to commemorate the life and work of Dave Hobbs. Tetbury RFC are hosting a mixed team from Whitchurch and Rhiwbina (where Dave moved to after leaving Tetbury) and Dave's sons Dan and Gareth, who grew up in Tetbury, are guesting with Tetbury RFC.

For those unacquainted with Dave Hobbs, he was the founder of Tetbury RFC in 1986 and its driving force for many years, both on and off the field. Dave was also a keen supporter of and coach at junior rugby, which he established at Tetbury and continues to this day. Prior to his move back to Wales several years ago, Dave was one of the club members who had the vision to buy Pike Field on behalf of the club and he was very pleased to see the plan of it one day becoming the club's new permanent home come to fruition.

Dave was diagnosed a few years ago with pancreatic cancer, which he fought with his typical enthusiasm and determination, although he sadly passed away at the end of 2021. Dave's personality, drive and charisma gave Tetbury RFC its impetus in its early years and he's still fondly remembered and respected by those who were fortunate enough to have met him and we're expecting a sizeable turnout of players and spectators on Saturday, whatever the weather.
